ARISE2READ

Arise2Read

What is ARISE2READ? ARISE2Read is a program that takes an active role in the development of children in our public schools through the presence of volunteers focused on literacy. We tutor students one hour per week utilizing a simple sight word approach.

When do I volunteer? You can sign up now through the first of August. Once you go through a training class and a background check through the school system, you will be assigned two students, and a weekly time to meet with them. You can request what day works best for you, but the time is normally set for 10:00 AM.

How do I sign-up? Contact Liz Newman at 901-476-9694 or ewnewman2@gmail.com. She will walk you through the process. Liz is on staff at First United Methodist Church Covington, and she is our community leader for this ministry.

Why ARISE2READ? Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." He also said, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.” Most of the children we serve through this ministry live in poverty. ARISE2READ gives you the opportunity to show Christ’s love in a very tangible way.
